Summer's always a sleepy time for IUB, with fewer courses, longer hours and a general feeling of laziness sets in. That doesn't mean that our HOPE members slacked off, no sirree...
Starting right from May, our members were involved in a number of different programs for IUB:
1) On May 17, some of our members (namely Sarah, myself, and Naomi...with Kashfee attending as guest) helped the Development Studies Group (DSG) at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), launch a seminar series titled “Can South Asia End Poverty in a Generation?” The first seminar in the series featured a presentation by Dr. Shantayanan Devarajan, Chief Economist of the South Asian Region (SAR), World Bank. The story came out in Rising Stars the following week. Check us out at:

2) This summer was also a busy one for us as most of our members (Sylvia, Efaz, Farina, Farshid, Sarah and myself) were busy working for IUB's Bangla program, where we acted as conversation partners for a group of American exchange students here to learn Bangla. The event concluded with a special graduation dinner on August 8.
3) Aside from programs for other schools and departments, Sadia, Sumaiya and Farshid, with help from Adnan and Efaz also managed to host one a HOPE program in July, with a food sale (seems to be our thing) and a special concert, featuring Elita of Raaga, Farshid, and Adnan.
So that was HOPE in Summer for you. Keep your eyes peeled for exciting events coming your way very soon!
